Purpose
We are seeking an experienced Head of Engineering – Digital Payments to lead the design, delivery, and evolution of our digital payment technology stack. This role is responsible for building highly available, secure, and scalable payment platforms that support high transaction volumes across multiple payment rails and geographies.
You will provide technical leadership across payment processing, integrations, platform reliability, and engineering excellence, while partnering closely with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Business teams.

Key missions
Technology & Architecture
• Own the end-to-end engineering strategy for digital payments
• Define and evolve scalable, resilient, and secure payment architectures capable of handling high throughput and low latency
• Drive adoption of modern engineering practices (cloud-native, microservices, APIs, event-driven systems)
Engineering Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering teams across backend, platform, and integration domains
• Establish clear engineering standards, coding practices, and architectural governance
• Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Delivery & Execution
• Partner with Product and Business stakeholders to translate payment strategy into technical roadmaps and execution plans
• Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery of complex payment initiatives
• Balance speed, reliability, and regulatory requirements in all engineering decisions
Security, Risk & Compliance
• Ensure systems comply with PCI-DSS, data privacy, and regulatory standards (e.g: DORA)
• Embed security-by-design and strong operational controls into payment platforms
• Collaborate with Risk, Fraud, and Compliance teams to mitigate operational and financial risks
Reliability & Operations
• Own platform reliability, uptime, and incident management for payment systems
• Implement observability, monitoring, and SRE best practices
• Lead post-incident reviews and drive systemic improvements
External Partnerships
• Oversee integrations and performance of third-party payment services
Profile & Other Information
Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams.
Preferred Experience
• Experience with real-time payments, open banking, or global payment schemes
• Background in high-volume transaction platforms or fintech scale-ups
• Familiarity with fraud prevention, risk engines, and payment analytics

KEY SKILLS
• 15+ years of software engineering experience, with significant leadership experience in payments or financial services
• Proven track record leading large-scale, mission-critical payment systems
• Deep understanding of payment flows, settlement, and authorization process
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and distributed systems
• Experience operating in regulated environments
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
