Purpose

This role protects and safeguards IDEMIA by ensuring compliance with laws and contributes to IDEMIA value creation by providing support and legal advice to management, business teams and other key stakeholders. 

Job Description

  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts, tenders and relevant documents to support and enable sales and business teams. End to end support required- from advisory and concluded with approval processes. Adept at providing legal advice and risk assessments to internal stakeholders.
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts and documents to support requirements for other internal functions like finance, HR, IT & operations. 
  • Strict implementation and review of policies, frameworks and related documents for compliance, export control and governance matters. Examines business operations and behaviors to alert of any potential failure of compliance or regulatory breach.
  • Engages and manages external legal counsels, as required and communicates and negotiates with regulators and public authorities, where required. 
  • Management of corporate secretarial matters for IDEMIA's and Divisions' legal entities and use of tools for archiving and reporting. 
  • Supports training of internal client organizations by continuous knowledge-sharing and coaching regarding IDEMIA policies, processes and ways of working especially for ethics, compliance and governance topics that impact the business.
  • Monitors law and regulations developments, analyzes impacts, and recommends changes where necessary (agreements, policies, bylaws) and supports the implementation of changes.
  • Engagement and participation on internal workstreams for standardization of drafts, processes and ways of working, as also engagement with other internal stakeholders. 
  • Uses requisite tools and trackers within the department for reporting, archiving etc. 

Profile & Key Requirements

IDEMIA is looking for a Legal Counsel to join its dynamic team to support the Middle East & Africa Region, reporting to the Regional Head of Legal. Candidate must be based in Mumbai, India. The candidate must have proven experience in general corporate and commercial especially in technology and digital domain, working in-house or in private practice. The candidate must possess excellent legal and strategic judgment, coupled with strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills. Candidate needs to have a learner mindset and capability to expand his/her knowledge in relevant areas of law and domains. Candidate must demonstrate ability to work independently and must be a good team player and possess a high level of integrity.

Qualification:

  • LLM or equivalent from an accredited law school.
  • 2-5 years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house, with a focus on technology.
  • Excellent proficiency in English Language. Knowlege of French or Arabic is preferable. 
  • Commercial awareness of GCC laws is a plus.
